FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Southeastern Jewish News - August 2005Victims of Terror Awareness Event8/1/05 September 11, 2001 will always be remembered as the day America became intimately familiar with being a “victim of terror.” To recall and remember that theme and to recognize those who have unfortunately been victims of terrorism at this difficult time in our history the Norfolk Area Community Kollel will be presenting a Community-Wide Victims of Terror Awareness Event on the afternoon of Sunday, September 11, 2005 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. This event will be held at and is being co-sponsored by the at Simon Family Jewish Community Center. The event will consist of a blood drive executed by the American Red Cross in conjunction with the Magen David Adom, the Israeli blood and emergency response organization. It will also have a strong educational component that will focus on awareness to teens and families. There will be discussion groups for teens, arts and craft projects for children, many booths, videos, and displays as well as educational demonstrations on the subject of victims of terror. There will be an educational focus on how terror has affected our Israeli brothers and sisters and our local community. As this is a community event, many elected officials and community leaders are being invited to come and both the Kollel and the Simon Family JCC hope that this event will raise awareness towards this problem in our society and rekindle a sense of personal connection to something that at times can seem so far away. In addition to the aforementioned program elements there will also be an opportunity to send correspondence to Jewish victims of terror and initiate a relationship that can last a lifetime. The Norfolk Area Community Kollel and the Simon Family Jewish Community Center are hopeful that this event will bring together the entire community and show unity on this day of remembrance and hope.
