Victims of Terror Awareness Event a Succcess!

Sunday afternoon, September 11th, the Norfolk Area Community Kollel sponsored the Victims of Terror Awareness Event at the Reba and Sam Sandler Family Campus of the Tidewater Jewish Community. The event was co-sponsored by the Simon Family Jewish Community Center and had participation from the B’nai Brith Youth Organization and other local organizations. The event had booths from Magen David Adom, One family Fund, Honest Reporting, and other international terror victims advocacy groups. There was a children’s program run by Shari Berman and a teen program facilitated by Rabbi Ephraim Adler, the Executive Vice President of the Norfolk Area Community Kollel. The American Red Cross also ran a blood drive at the event and said that is was a very successful and timely program.

“Americans need reminders all the time.” Said one of the participants of the Victims of Terror Event.  “Consistent with our Jewish tradition, remembering an occurrence in order to learn from its lessons year after year, this event should bring back memories and re-ignite a flame within us,” said event coordinator, Rabbi Gershon Litt, Director of Programming and Community Relations of the Norfolk Area Community Kollel. Rabbi Litt added that while the September 11th event was to raise participants’ awareness of terror victims in Israel the overall feeling that he wanted people to leave with was one of inspiration and empowerment. “The American Jew has tremendous opportunities at his fingertips. To help a victim’s family, spread the truth about what is happening in Israel, disseminate information regarding the media bias, and become motivated to lead others back to visit and live in our homeland is an extraordinary mitzvah that can touch countless lives both locally and in Israel. The Norfolk Area Community Kollel looks forward to offering many other community events and is currently running its fall classes.
